Linden Hall Studio
BRANDING, BRAND GUIDELINES
Linden Hall Studio is a privately-owned gallery in the heart of historic Deal in Kent. Showcasing the best of contemporary British painting, sculpture, ceramics and glass, it is a genuine creative hub that attracts artists and visitors from all over the world, so we were thrilled to work with them on their new identity.
The team at Linden Hall Studio asked us to create an identity that would match the gallery’s profile and fast-growing reputation. By researching how other prestigious galleries around the world presented themselves, we quickly gained an appreciation of their visual likes and dislikes, and agreed the basis of their branding brief.
Our concepts explored a wide range of typographic and graphic-led executions, but it was this intriguing, interlocking ‘LH’ graphic – created from a continuous gold line – that captured their imaginations. The distinctive, dark green typography in upper-case sans serif, and lower-case serif fonts, contributes to the premium look created by the precious gold element.
“Howell and Hicks designed several alternative logos for our consideration, all of which expressed the essence of a contemporary art gallery. We were delighted with their interconnecting “LH” logo design, and since then, it has appeared on all our publicity materials, and has already become a recognised symbol for Linden Hall Studio.”
